Plate Expectations with Steve Tasker

Meals
on Wheels for Western New York is happy to have former Buffalo Bills
player, Steve Tasker serve as honorary chairman of its sixth annual
fundraising event, Plate Expectations, on September 23rd, at 6PM, at the Hyatt
Regency Buffalo.

Last
year, Plate Expectations raised more than $100,000 with proceeds directly
benefiting the homebound elderly and disabled served by its home delivered
nutrition program. This year, the agency is not only relying on profits from tickets
sales, but also from its live and silent auctions.

The
gala will include food and beverages, and live entertainment by Caribbean
Extravaganza. Meals on Wheels will also honor four organizations for their
exceptional community service and support of the Meals on Wheels mission.

After
retiring from the National Football League (NFL) in 1996, Tasker and his wife,
Sarah, have remained in the area and have supported numerous local nonprofit
organizations, including the United Way and the American Red Cross. Tasker will
be on-hand at Plate Expectations to greet the anticipated 400 attendees.

“Sarah
and I are excited to help Meals on Wheels further its mission of helping the
elderly and disabled remain independent and healthy,” Tasker commented.

In
addition, local auctioneer, Cash Cunningham, will host a live auction,
including a trip to Las Vegas, a 32″ LCD television, a sailboat cruise on Lake
Erie, and autographed sports jerseys.

“We
have some one-of-a-kind pieces this year, including an autographed framed
photograph of all eleven former Buffalo Sabres captains,” said Benjamin A.
Gair, chief executive officer at Meals on Wheels.

In
2008, the agency delivered more than 865,000 meals through the service of
nearly 2,000 volunteers. “The volunteers drive this program; they are the best
of what our country strives to be and I am proud to be a small part of such a
great team,” Tasker said.

To
purchase tickets, call Kathleen Zastrow at 822-2201 or visit the events page at
www.mealsonwheelswny.org. Tickets are $75
each.

Meals
on Wheels for Western New York is an independent not-for-profit agency
supporting the dignity, well-being and independence of people through home-delivered
meals and related support services.

Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.
