The renovated residential building at 65 Whitney Place is for sale. Developer Sunset Bay Park Inc. purchased the building in May 2007 and recently completed upgrades to the historic property. The building contains six residential units, each with two bedrooms and one bath in 1,093 sq.ft. of living space. It has a $750,000 asking price.
A condo offering plan has been approved for the building. One unit in the building is being marketed for sale at $119,000. While none of the residences are under contract, developers Sal Zambito and Tim Sick are offering the whole building for sale along with an off-site parking lot on Carolina Street.
Although sales have lagged, the building has been more successful as a rental property. All six units are currently leased at $1200 to $1300 per month. Units feature exposed brick walls, high ceilings, insulated glass, recessed lighting, six-panel doors, closet lighting, dishwasher, updated plumbing, basement storage areas, sprinkler system, and forced-air heat/AC.
Opened in 1898, the three and a half-story brick, Italian palazzo-style building was originally built as a hotel for the Pan Am Exposition. The building’s exterior features decorative brick quoining and splayed brick arches.
