If you know of any Buffalonians living in New York, it’s your duty to tell them about this party now!
The third annual BUFFALO TAKES MANHATTAN party, which benefits PUSH
Buffalo, is coming up on Saturday, September 19th in Manhattan.
This year’s party will be held on the 33rd floor of a Times Square skyscraper
bedecked with Buffaloniana like a Wall of Heroes featuring the likes of Irv
Weinstein, the French Connection, Commander Tom, Lucille Ball, the Earl of Bud
and others as well as photo exhibits of Buffalo neighborhoods and industrial
sites by Lesley Horowitz and Whitney Crispell.
As in past years, hundreds of Buffalo natives and fans will
feast on wings from three “Buffalo bars” in NYC– McFadden’s, Atomic
and Bonnie’s–along with pizza from La Nova. Labatts and Flying Bison
will be imported.
Rabbi Darkside, a North Buffalo native and internationally known
hip-hop artist, will anchor the entertainment, which will also feature DJs
Kevlar and LoPro spinning eclectic sets of soul, funk, jazz and Buffalo
favorites. In party years, the party transitions to a dance event around
midnight.
This year’s guest of honor is famed playwright A.R. Gurney,
whose more than 30 published works, including several set in Buffalo.
Buffalonians making the trip down for the party are encouraged
to make it an all-Buffalo weekend in NYC by watching the Bills-Tampa game at
any one of the six Buffalo bars in the boroughs that serve as homes away from
home for diehard fans.
Raffle items include Bills and Sabres tickets and memorabilia;
gift certificates to more than twenty Buffalo restaurants and museums; and
unique items like a collection of Buffalo poetry donated by Will Creeley, poet
Robert Creeley’s son.
Sponsors include SEIU 1199, the NYC Buffalo Bills Backers,
Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, HSBC and M & T Bank
