Are summer activities slowing down? If you’re not quite ready to start your back-to-school shopping, there are still many great summer events for August!
Friday, August 14th:
Off The Cuff will host a CD release party for their new album, “500 Hats,” at the Pearl Street Grill and Brewery (76 Pearl Street). The party starts at 9:30 PM. Enjoy complimentary h’odeuvres and drink specials. Cover charge is $5.
To celebrate National Health Center Week, Northwest Buffalo Community Health Care Center (155 Lawn Avenue) will host Represenative Brian Higgins at 11 AM for an open house and press conference.
Saturday, August 15th:
Catholic Radio will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a conference, featuring Father John Corapi at HSBC Arena (1 Seymour Knox III Place). A talk will be given by EWTN News Director Raymond Arroyo. At this Saturday’s Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers’ Market, Ron Glatzhofer, owner and founder of Saltamontes Salsa, will demonstrate how to prepare homemade salsa and more with artisan breads from Artful Table, skirt steak from Blossom Hill Farm and fresh, seasonal veggies from various vendors. Also, enjoy live music from violinist David Adamczyk. The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers’ Market is held every Saturday from 8 AM until 1 PM on Bidwell Parkway at Elmwood Avenue.
Northwest Buffalo Community Health Care Center (155 Lawn Avenue) in partnership with Fidelis Care will host a “Community Awareness and Family Fun Day” to celebrate National Health Center Week, featuring story telling, book give-a-way, Kan Jam tournament, face painting, tours of the health center and a raffle to win a bike and helmet.
“Takin’ It To The Streets” on Buffalo’s East Side, a community rally to support single mothers and their children, will take place at Martin Luther King Jr. Park from 11 AM until 9 PM. The event will feature job and health information, food and clothing give-a-ways, dance and music performances, activities for kids and other community-enriching activities. Volunteers and donations are welcome.
Sunday, August 16th:
Swimmers of all ages are welcome to attend, “Carly’s Crossing 2009,” a swim event and family-friendly party presented by Creditors Interchange, at Gallagher Beach (Lake Erie Small Boat Harbor) from 7 AM until 3 PM. Pledges will support Carly’s Club at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The event features timed and non-competitive courses as well as games, a bounce house, live music, food and other kid-friendly activities.
