Go anywhere in the US, and you’re bound to see people wearing hats, and I’d be willing to bet the majority of these hats have “New Era” stitched on them somewhere. New Era is also the supplier to every Major League Baseball team, all minor league baseball associates, a number of US colleges and the NBA and NHL.
The New York Times recently caught wind of how “this economy” is affecting people’s spending habits, and since New Era is basically the Fiji water of baseball caps, the company has seen a reduction in sales, leading to the release of workers. The company seems confident that this can turn around when things get better, which is good.
In lighter news, New Era launched a completely interactive online magazine (complete with page-turning animation). The magazine, called “Fitted,” includes interviews with New Era cap wearing celebrities, and New Era news from all over the world. I went through the issue on the site, and it’s really cool. The articles are interesting, and there’s video on almost every page.
