On
Wednesday, July 22nd, Sean and Jeannine McNamara stood on the sand at Gallagher
Beach downtown to issue a challenge to Western New York: jump into Lake Erie
with us and help find cancer cures. Sean is a two-year cancer survivor, and
this year, Jeannine will give thanks for the care her brother received at Roswell Park Cancer Institute by swimming in Carly’s Crossing 2009, the open-water
swim event that raises funds for Carly’s
Club.
The
seventh annual Carly’s Crossing will take place on August 16th, in the Lake Erie
Small Boat Harbor, offering both timed and non-competitive courses for swimmers
of all ability levels. In addition, families and friends can come to support
swimmers and just hang out at a great post-event party on the waterfront,
featuring bounce houses, face painting, games, food and more.
Jeannine
and her family will be joined by about 300 other swimmers this year, with the
shared goal of raising funds for pediatric cancer research and patient care at
Roswell Park. To register for Carly’s Crossing, or to support Jeannine and her
fellow swimmers, visit www.CarlysCrossing.org or call 716.845.8788.
