This Weekend in the Queen City

Here’s a quick run-down of what’s happening this weekend in Buffalo. And don’t forget the Taste of Buffalo!
On Friday, July 10th…
View photographs of Buffalo and New Orleans captured by artist and photo journalist Clark Dever at the Grant Street Gallery (Sweetness 7 Cafe). The opening of his show, “When the Financial Levies Broke,” will take place from 5 PM until 8 PM. Photographs will be on display at the gallery, located at 216 Grant Street at Lafayette Avenue, until Thursday, July 16th.

Enjoy a cold, Buffalo-made micro-brewed beer and see Terry Sullivan perform with Low Lamp Sessions at The Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, located at 76 Pearl Street, at 9 PM. Cover charge is $4.

On Saturday, July 11th…

2nd Annual Soundlab BBQ: What better way to spend a summer day? Bands: Johnny Nobody-Besnyo-Bearhunter-Mark Nosowicz-Wooden Waves-Cages-Chylde-The Thermidors-Bygon Halcyon-Peanut Brittle Satellite-Monkey & Boy-Beard FIght-Bernice Marie-Brian Wheat-Shapes of State-Nodic- McCrackin-Worrywort-Ersing-Ashley England. Shock & Awe later in the night! 10 bucks gets you bands, dance party and hot dogs! Presented by Joysdead! & Harvest Studios. All proceeds go to benefit the after school program at the Hope Refugee Center. Starts at 1pm.

Habitat ReStore will celebrate four years of business in support of Habitat for Humanity Buffalo, featuring a special broadcase of Domenic Cortese’s radio show, raffle prizes, food, workshops and more! The party will be held at Habitat ReStore, located at 501 Amherst Street, from 9 AM until 4 PM. For more information, please call 716.852.6607.

A two-hour “Architectural & Historical Walking Tour of Parkside” will begin at the Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 96 Jewett Parkway, at 10 AM. Admission is $10. For more information, please contact the PCA at 716.838.1240.

A “Digital SLR Photography” workshop will be held by instructor Joel Brenden at CEPA Gallery, located at 617 Main Street, from 11 AM until 1:30 PM.

Tifft Nature Preserve will answer the question “Where Are All the Animals?” with a guided walk, starting at 1200 Fuhrmann Boulevard at 1 PM. To register for this event, please call 716.896.5200. The cost is $5 for non-members. 

Splash Panic! will host “Panic Attack!,” an event that’s part concert, part dance party – and all fashion. The event begins at 7:30 PM at The Tralf, located at 622 Main Street. Tickets can be purchased at Splash Panic! at 818 Elmwood Avenue ($12) or at the door ($15). This is an all-ages show, but I.D. will be required for drinks.  

On Sunday, July 12th…
An “Annual Ancestral Tour of Forest Lawn” cemetery will be held, highlighting historical and contemporary African-American community leaders. The guided tour begins at Forest Lawn, located at 1411 Delaware Avenue, at 3:30 PM. The cost is $25. For reservations, please call 1.800.838.3006.
