The $300,000 reconstruction project of the fire-damaged Houghton Pool Shelter House on the City’s East Side was a success, making its facilities available for local residents to enjoy another fun, public destination this summer.
The Buffalo Department of Public Works Division of Buildings addressed a long list of concerns before the facility could be re-opened to the public. The work included the removal of asbestos, painting the exterior trim, installation of glass windows, doors, garage doors, new plumbing in the locker and shower rooms, new electrical service, plugs, switches, new exterior lighting, and the painting of all interior doors, walls, ceilings and floors.
“It’s important for our residents to have this opportunity to use facilities like the Houghton Pool Shelter House and enjoy the full benefit of these city parks amenities during the summer,” said Mayor Brown. “We have made it a priority to invest in facilities like the Houghton Pool Shelter House, improve our parks infrastructure and enhance the quality of life benefits our residents get from coming to city pools like Houghton Pool in Stachowski Park.”
“This investment will go a long way to enhancing a neighborhood resource unfortunately scarred by fire,” stated Eric County legislator Tim Kennedy. “I applaud these continued efforts to improve the quality of our parks system throughout the City of Buffalo.”
