On Friday, July 10th, Studio Hart will host an opening reception for its exhibition of works by photographer Ed Healy, from 6 PM until 8 PM. His collection, “Only the Stones Remain: Kayaking on the Buffalo River,” will be displayed at the studio until Saturday, August 15th.
The upcoming show marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in Buffalo since his 2005 show, “Buffalo by Night,” at CEPA Gallery. “Only the Stones Remain” documents the current state of the Buffalo River and the Buffalo waterfront in a series of vibrant Giclee prints.
Healy describes the show as an accidental body of work. “I didn’t set out to examine the ecology of the Buffalo River, its industrial architecture or my family’s roots in the Old First Ward,” said the artist. “That something resembling this has happened is a very pleasant coincidence for someone who spent so much time along the river as a boy.”
Healy is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and the Newhouse School of Public Communications of Syracuse University. He studied photography at SUNY Purchase and the International Center of Photography in New York.
His work has been exhibited at CEPA Gallery, the Kenan Center, Alan Brown Gallery in Hartsdale, NY, the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts in Goldens Bridge, NY, Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester and SoHo Photo in Manhattan.
Studio Hart, located at 65 Allen Street, is home to over 20 galleries including Buffalo Big Print, Indigo Art, Art Dialogue Gallery, and College Street Gallery as well as many fine restaurants and retail shops. Studio Hart is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM until 2 PM, and by appointment.
