Most things about Andrew Bird and his music are strange. He is as unclassifiable as Animal Collective and Radiohead, he rarely holds fewer than two instruments at a time during his performances, and his lyrics fit a regular meter and rhyme scheme, while being about as unorthodox as possible within those confines (“Memories like mohair
sweaters/ Stretched and pilled faux distressed letters/ Moose’s horns
and figure eights/ White plastic bags in search of mates). As live music goes, he is renowned for his performances: the San Jose Mercury News writes, “The records are great, but watching him do it live is something every music fan ought to check out,” and the Seattlest says, “We literally found our mouths hanging open after nearly every song.” And he’s coming to Buffalo.
On Wednesday, October 21st, the only Bird that can whistle will be playing at Babeville in Asbury Hall at 341 Delaware Ave. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at noon and the general consensus seems to be that this tour will be the last of his famously face to face, up close and personal concerts for which he has earned such a strong reputation. According to people who know more than I do at Vanity Fair, this tour will probably be our “last chance to catch this Bird up close.”
So go buy tickets! They’re available at all tickets.com online and outlets including Tops Markets and the Babeville Box Office (M-F, 11AM – 5PM). To charge by phone, call 888-223-6000. And watch Andrew’s performance on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien this evening at 11:30. Because he’s awesome.
