The Barkyard Is Almost Ready

Work is almost complete on LaSalle Park’s new dog park – The Barkyard. From Jay ‘Micropark’ McCarthy:

“The fences go up today. It should be open by the weekend. The ribbon cutting should be next week. It’s 2 acres… over 80,000 square feet. It’s substantially larger than our previous area with beautiful views of the lake, the mouth of the river, and the city. We’re not stuck behind fences anymore… we’re on an elevated section. The trees have already been planted. It’s wheelchair accessible with a double entry gate so dogs can’t escape when others are coming and going… it’s called a sally port. There are separated areas for small and large dogs. We’re supposed to have water and lights soon – that’s part of an agreement with The City. Everything will happen in due course.

“This is just Phase 1. We’re going to have to host another fundraiser to get additional amenities like seating. The people who donate are directly benefited – they can go out and enjoy the park with their dogs. The group BuffOLA is responsible for the park’s ongoing sustainability. Buffalo’s first Micropark is almost complete. I’m so excited I’m beside myself.”
