We had a surprise
guest at our Memorial Day Weekend’s TAPS Ghost Hunt, who was so impressed with
Buffalo, that he not only did a radio spot, but blogged about us also. If you
speak German, check out this link. Long-time CTRC
member Jeff Ingersoll’s daughter Melissa lives in Germany and has provided the
following translation:
“The guy, Peter
Voegeli, is apparently a contributor for the Swiss national radio station. He
did a nice, 9-minute story about Buffalo that aired yesterday. The text
introduces the radio clip. There is also a slideshow of Buffalo’s architecture
(“Diashow”). Here is a translation of the text:
Declaration of Love to
Buffalo
Why should one go to
Buffalo, NY? To a city, that is most well known for having the only football
team that lost the Super Bowl four times?
Why should one be
interested in Buffalo, of all places, in light of the national economic crisis?
The architectural
legacy of this city and the dedication of its citizens are an asset for the
city, precisely in these times of crisis. A declaration of love — to Buffalo,
of all places.”
Melissa then adds the
following description of the radio spot:
“The radio story talks
about Buffalo’s economic problems, then describes various architectural gems
such as the Darwin Martin House, Kleinhans, and the Central Terminal. He
reports that a lot of people don’t realize how important these places are, but
that there are very engaged citizens working to preserve them and make them
attractive to visitors. At the end he mentions how stimulus money could make
Buffalo a transportation hub once again.”
For those of you who
would like to see Buffalo through the eyes of a foreign visitor, I encourage
you to check out the fantastic photos in the slideshow. This little story
really made my day. Danke Schoen, Peter!
