A few months ago, I updated you on Buffalo’s top soccer development program. Buffalo City Football Club is in its first year under new management and coaching, and is currently in first place in their division, with the toughest part of their schedule ahead of them before the playoffs in mid-July, which will be played at Nichols. Not bad for their first year.
As impressive as that is, the team is also proud to announce that Bobby Shuttleworth, Nichols graduate and former UB goalkeeper, has signed a MLS contract with the New England Revolution. They’ll certainly miss Shuttleworth, but hope that he is the first of many BCFC footballers to go pro. Most of the team’s talent comes from the area – proof that we have competitive soccer talent.
And that’s what BCFC is all about; developing good players into outstanding players. As I mentioned in the previous article, BCFC is looking to develop the local soccer talent in Buffalo, which is an estimated 60,000 players strong. They offer summer camps set to begin June 29 and continue through to August at Court Street Elementary in Lancaster. For $150, players will spend four days being evaluated by BCFC coaches, including 25-year old Mike Share, a talented midfielder and European league veteran.
There are two regular season games left in the BCFC schedule, all of which will be played at Nichols. Check them out free of charge, and if you’re looking to improve your soccer skills or those of someone you know, look into the clinics offered. How often can you go to a sports camp with the possibility of receiving free training in Europe?
