Stanford Lipsey’s career goes
further than newspapers; the publisher of The Buffalo News will have his artwork exhibited in the
Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The
exhibition, Affinity of Form: Photographs by Stanford Lipsey, is a collection of 27 of Lipsey’s large-scale photographs, all of which were taken throughout the
past several years. The works can also be found in his recently published book, Affinity
of Form, along
with a wide array of additional images.
The exhibition opens in the Albright’s Collectors
Gallery starting on Friday, June 26th, and will continue until Sunday, August 16th. On the opening day of the exhibition,
Lipsey will present an illustrated lecture as part of Gusto at the
Gallery in
the AKAG auditorium at 7PM. It is free and open to the public.
Lipsey’s
lifelong passion for photography has developed his vision and has also created a knack for finding abstract qualities of the
subject of the picture. He
demonstrates specific detail, as can also been seen throughout the exhibition,
to the primary relationships of color, form, texture and light within the
photo, resulting in unique portrayals with a compelling abstract quality.
Many
objects of his photographs are natural objects such as landscapes, architecture and
manufactured elements. Lipsey
finds abstraction through capturing the visual similarities and contrasts
between unrelated forms of both natural and manmade objects. In this way, he proves that an ordinary artifact
can be turned into art by viewing it through an out-of-the-ordinary lens–turning the ordinary into extraordinary.
This exhibition is made possible
through the leadership support of Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP;
Elisabeth Roche Wilmers and Robert Wilmers; and Leslie and Howard Zemsky; with
additional support from Donna and Frank McGuire.
The
Collectors Gallery is open to the public Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from
noon to 4PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 1PM to 4PM. For additional
