Buffalo’s
own roller derby league, the Queen City Roller Girls, have finished their home
season and their travel team is now branching out and taking on the Broad
Street Butchers of the Philadelphia Roller Girls on Saturday, May 30th at
7:30PM at Rainbow Rink. However, the girls will
kick off the night with check presentations at 7PM to eight different
charitable organizations, such as the American Cancer Society and the Food Bank
of Western New York.
The
league “started a couple years ago when three girls met with a common love of
the smell of the rink and the feeling of having eight wheels beneath their
feet, gliding on the ground.” The
only all girls league in Western New York has since grown into a set of four
teams throughout the league with over 80 members. The teams have the interesting and fierce names of the
Suicidal Saucies, Nickel City Knockouts, Devil Dollies and the Alley Cats.
The
girls compete at rinks throughout the area, but for the event against the visiting
Philly team, they will be at the Rainbow Rink. Tickets start at $10 pre sale, $15 at the door ($15 for front row pre sale),
with tickets available online. The girls say fans can expect it to be a fun and exciting show.
