BRO readers might remember this post about a
workshop held by graduate students in the UB School of Architecture and Planning’s
Department of Urban and Regional Planning, working under the direction of
Samina Raja, Ph.D., assistant professor of planning.
As promised, the preliminary findings for the “Queen City Gardens Plan” will
be discussed at 5:30 today, in 230 Hayes Hall, on the University at Buffalo South
(Main Street) Campus, when the students will present what they have gleaned so far for the City of Buffalo Task Force on Community Gardens. The public is invited to hear the
students’ planning and policy strategies for creating and sustaining community
gardens in the City of Buffalo.
To further their objective of creating a plan
with the utmost in community input, those present after the presentation will
be invited to provide suggestions for incorporation into the final report,
which will be presented at a date to be announced in the next few days.
Queen City Gardens has its roots in Raja’s
graduate Urban Planning class, “Planning for Food Justice,” which was
assigned the task of assessing the current status of Buffalo’s community
gardens, and providing insight into their future.
