Buffalo Select Chorus will be holding their 4th recording concert at Asbury Hall on June 3rd. This event will be free and open to the public.
Directed by Linda Appleby, Buffalo Select Chorus is comprised of outstanding musicians across the Buffalo Public School District. Appleby created the chorus in 2005 along with Susan Mann Dolce and members of the community, ensuring that all high school students had an opportunity for programs in the arts. Every year, the chorus has recorded a final concert that they could use for their college applications.
Appleby was endorsed by the Foundation of Arts and Athletics as well as Ani DiFranco, who has provided Babeville for rehersal and performance space.
Growing to about thirty students, Buffalo Select Chorus represents students from nine high schools across Buffalo. Students specialize in a variety of genres: jazz, gospel, classical, baroque, blues, contemporary, and chamber music. Appleby’s vision has allowed students to expand their vocal skills with professional musicians and certified music teachers. Appleby has been awarded “Linda Appleby Day” at the 2008 performance by Mayor Byron Brown for her dedication.
The concert will be held on June 3rd at 7:30PM at Asbury Hall, 37 Delaware Avenue. To get a taste of the talent that will be performing, you can listen to clips of Buffalo Select Chorus rehearsing here. To contact Linda Appleby or purchase music, you can visit the Buffalo Select Chorus website.
