The Erie County Industrial Development Agency board today approved
incentives for a $10 million technology purchase by Fisher-Price in East Aurora
so it can maintain operations and employment.
Fisher-Price, A subsidiary of Mattel Corp is one of the largest
non-government employers in Erie County, with most of its headquarters staff
consisting of well-paid designers, engineers and product developers. With just
under 900 employees, Fisher-Price has multiple buildings at its Girard Avenue
headquarters, where it has designed, produced and marketed its toys since 1930.
Funding for the project will allow the toymaker to upgrade its
information systems to help it remain competitive, and incentives will save the
company about $875,000 in sales taxes.
“Fisher-Price is one of Erie County’s flagship employers and its
products are known worldwide,” said John C. Cappellino, ECIDA director of
business development and marketing. “Fisher-Price has a long history of
expansion and growth and the ECIDA has helped it with projects going back to
1995.”
This is a
modification of an earlier filing, with the $10 million spent over three years.
