No one really thought about the Buffalo Braves for a while. Maybe with the Aud coming down, it’s like that scene from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, when all the spirits fly out of the Ark of the Covenant after it’s opened. What I mean is, since the Aud is being demolished, we’re all thinking about history, so it’s like the spirits of the Braves have entered our memories, minus melting our faces off. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of cool Braves stuff around, and I’m glad.
And come this Saturday, you can add a piece of Braves history to your collection. Starting at 11AM and ending at 1PM, author Tim Wendel will be on hand at downtown’s New Era store to sign copies of his book Buffalo, Home Of The Braves, which chronicles the rise and fall of our National Basketball Association team. It’s a limited edition item, with only 1500 copies, for $89.
The 216-page coffee-table styled book is filled with interviews with former coaches and players like Bob McAdoo, Randy Smith, and coach Dr. Jack Ramsay, great vintage photos provided by sports photographer Robert Smith, and plenty of history in each chapter. Team owner Paul Snyder and play-by-play icon Van Miller also contribute.
Tim Wendel is an award winning journalist and novelist from Lockport. He authored novels Castro’s Curveball, Red Rain, and nonfiction works The New Face Of Baseball and Far From Home.
