Subway: Like Night And Day

Finally. Subway eatery has finally replaced its crappy looking awning at the corner of Elmwood and Forest. For years the dirty yellow vinyl billboard welcomed people to the neighborhood with a ‘We don’t care’ attitude. The dark green replacement is like night and day – especially at night. No more bugs… no more grime… I never thought that I would see the day (or night). Some people might think that a replacement awning is an insignificant change. That may be true in some cases, but there are people out there who care about the appearance of the business community. Especially when there are so many locally owned businesses that do go out of their way to make the district attractive for shoppers.

It was back in December of ’07 that a paper sign went up in the window announcing new ownership. I was hoping that the notice would signal a cleaned up appearance – so it took a while longer than I had hoped. Actually, if you think back a few years ago… back before 2006… you might remember when this building was painted an outdated garish blue color. The new subdued paint job did a lot for the corner, but the business was still stuck with a beat up yellow awning. Hopefully more businesses in the city will look to improve their image by cleaning up their storefronts. Even though I would have preferred to see a canvas awning go up at the corner, I’m still happy that I won’t have to stare at the old yellow eyesore any longer.
