Everybody’s favorite local rock star/foodie is back at it again
with Episode 3 of his series All Access Pass with Nelson Starr.
In Episode 3, Starr takes a jaunt through South Buffalo’s
“Old First Ward” just prior to this past St. Patrick’s Day.
Starr calls it “a celebration of this historic district, its people, and
its significant Irish-American heritage.” He features our neighbor, The Swannie House, Gene
McCarthy’s, and he also takes in “The Valley” parade. Starr digs into the old school charm of
these landmark pubs and the people in them, while on a hunt for the ultimate
fish fry and other culinary delights.
The show seeks to expose and celebrate the unique “foodways,” cuisine, and other cultural treasures of WNY, and its home network, truebluebuffalo.com is the brainchild of
award-winning filmmaker and producer, John Paget who also shoots, edits, and
directs the program.
An homage to the Travel Channel’s Anthony Bourdain
– No Reservations (Mondays at 10 PM) in which Nelson has appeared, All Access
Pass is simply a gas. And for those who don’t already know, Bourdain’s show gave
Starr his culinary TV start with his participation in a Travel Channel contest, Then Starr successfully wooed the Travel Channel to come to WNY to do a segment featuring
Buffalo and its food favorites. That Travel Channel episode, known as the
“Rustbelt Episode”, is scheduled to air on or around July 27, 2009,
and shows Starr proudly guiding
Bourdain around the Queen City and its environs.
John Paget and Nelson Starr are both Buffalo based artists.
John has directed several documentary feature films including, Almost Elvis and Alcatraz
Reunion.
Nelson is a Buffalo Music Hall of Fame member, composer, and author.
