Local Colleges & Twitter

Twitter, as everyone has heard, is the new big thing.  Like MySpace and Facebook before it, Twitter – or tweeting, to be more precise – is what all the kids are doing.

The Buffalo twittersphere is quite active as you can tell through a zip code search on Twitter’s search engine.  While individual adoption of Twitter is ramping quickly, larger organizations have proven slower to adopt (and adapt to) this new medium.  To see which local colleges have started using Twitter to communicate with their students and the local community, we scoured the internets for their Twitter accounts.  It’s not always easy to determine if an account is ‘official’ and it’s not always easy to check every possible Twitter account name a school may use, but we’ve made our best effort to generate a complete list.  As you can see, about half the schools use Twitter, half don’t.  Perhaps most surprisingly, we couldn’t find a Twitter account for UB.  None of the schools have a tremendous amount of followers (most followed school is Buff State with 144 followers) and none follow a lot of other users (Medaille follows the most at 48)
