Local advertising is…unique. With smaller budgets, local advertisers
have to try to do more with less. And the particular geographic
location doesn’t matter – local commercials are always…unique.
To
celebrate our own local advertising adventures, we’re introducing a
periodic series focused on local ads. Sure, some might quibble with
the production quality of these local efforts, but at least they’re
memorable. If you hum the tune to any local jingle in public, anyone
within earshot will chime in. It’s kind of like when “Sweet Caroline”
comes on in a bar.
This week we look back at former Sabres defenceman Brian Campbell. Campbell’s tenure in Buffalo began in 1997 when he was drafted by the Sabres in that year’s NHL Entry Draft. In time, he became one of the team’s favorite players, thanks to his style of play. His unbelievable open ice check on then Flyers forward RJ Umberger will be on NHL highlight reels for…ever. But as is the case with most athletes, the talent they have for playing their game doesn’t seem to translate in front of the camera. Here’s a classic Campbell commercial for “Veins Veins Veins!” So many veins, people!
(Sorry, this is the best quality available)
Everyone’s favorite part is when he looks away from the camera at the :21 second mark. What a great commercial.
But wait! There was another company that required Brian Campbell’s services. And that company is Dave and Adam’s. They played off of Campbell’s gigantic hit on Umberger.
There’s something hilariously awkward about the way Brian walks into the shot for a full 4 seconds without doing anything. When he jumps back onto the guy in the Flyers jersey for a second time, you can hear them laughing.
LOCAL COMMERCIALS RULE!
