Do you know a woman who demonstrates support for the goals of
female professionals, and provides significant and selfless assistance on their
behalf? Does she also demonstrate
significant, measurable business/professional achievements that have produced
exceptional results for an organization?
The Buffalo Niagara
Partnership announces the call for nominations for the 20th
Annual 2009 ATHENA™ Award. The award, received in 2008 by Ann E. Evanko,
president of Hurwitz & Fine P.C., is presented annually to an individual in
Buffalo Niagara.
New this year is the ATHENA™ Young Professional Award. The award will honor an emerging leader
who demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in her business or
profession, provides valuable service by contributing time and energy to
improve the quality of life for others in the community, and clearly serves as
a role model for young women, both personally and professionally.
Nominations for both awards are due by noon, Friday, February
13, 2009. Forms can be downloaded at The Partnership or received by contacting
Sara Schumacher at 716.541.1759.
The recipients will be announced and all nominees celebrated at a
luncheon on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in downtown Buffalo, featuring Martha
Mayhood Mertz, founder of ATHENA International, who will act as keynote speaker
for the event.
“I’m honored
to act as the keynote speaker for your 20th Annual ATHENA Award Luncheon
in the Buffalo Niagara region,” Mertz said. “Particularly
meaningful is the addition of the Young Professional Award, which is
timely and appropriate, given the success of the Partnership’s Buffalo Niagara 360 program. Today,
in more ways and places than at any other time in history, women are leaders:
heads of state and CEOs, bishops and generals, academics and social reformers.
The ATHENA Award doesn’t simply celebrate women in leadership positions. What’s
important is how ATHENA women lead — reaching out to mentor, giving back to
their communities, collaborating with others, staying true to themselves.
I look forward to celebrating this at the awards luncheon in April.”
