Throw away your Bills jerseys and retire your Sabres gear.
Buffalo finally has a champion in our midst. And it’s the UB Bulls.
The Bulls, a 14.5 point underdog in tonight’s MAC championship game, upset the undefeated Ball State Cardinals to claim their first-ever MAC championship. While the Bulls had already secured their first-ever Bowl appearance, this win represents a breakthrough accomplishment for the program.
With two defensive touchdowns and a solid offensive performance, UB beat the Cardinals 42-24. Quarterback Drew Wiley threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns and Naaman Roosevelt finished with 116 yards receiving.
Tonight’s historic win is a culmination of a remarkable program turnaround executed by Turner Gill. Before Coach Gill, the Bulls was 10 games in 7 seasons. In their 8 previous games against ranked opponents, the Bulls were winless and had scored just 70 points. Tonight, they scored 42 points and beat an undefeated 12th ranked team.
Now let’s just hope Dick Jauron was watching.
