There’s nothing like following a project that moves forward one moment, then slows up the next, before finally moving in a different direction. That’s what’s been happening with Scott Washburn and John Crawford’s 476 Rhode Island Street property – remember the brick building that we featured in this post? After the story was written, some of the key financial components began to change and it looked as if the purchase was not going to take place. It was heartbreaking to watch, but eventually the two decided to take the plunge and purchase the property. At the same time, they also decided to snag the adjacent lot, as well as another vacant house a couple of doors down.
The intention is now to fix up the abandoned house so that they have a place to live near their larger investment. Once the brick structure is habitable, the two are planning on vacating the fixed-up house, which will then become a secondary source of income for the two. I recently heard that if John and Scott had not purchased the two-storey house, there were others waiting in the wings who wanted to tear it down for use as a parking lot. Thanks to Scott and John, Rhode Island will not be adding another parking lot to its roster, rather it will have at least two additional functioning properties that will help to increase the area’s unique charm. They also have plans to utilize the corner lot in ways that will benefit the neighborhood rather than detract from it.
