Game and word lovers are asked to shake their tile bags and rack their brains while assisting others during Scrabble® Fest 2009, a fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County. Literacy Volunteers holds Scrabble® Fest every year in February and March as a means for people to have fun during the dreary winter days and to use words to support literacy.
Specifically, Literacy Volunteers is calling for hosts—anyone in the Buffalo area—to open their homes to family and friends to play the popular board game Scrabble® with each guest making a donation to Literacy Volunteers. One winner from each party will be invited to a final Scrabble® Party on March 7, 2009 to determine one winner. The Scrabble®-Off will also be a giant public party for anyone interested in attending and playing Scrabble® .
Anyone interested in hosting a party or participating in the public party should contact Tammy at Literacy Volunteers at 876-8991 or via e-mail at tammy@literacybuffalo.org.
Literacy Volunteers is the region’s sole provider of free, one-on-one adult and family literacy services and offers several programs: Basic Reading, English For Speakers of Other Languages, the Drop In Literacy & Language Program, the Broadway Fillmore Community Technology Collaborative youth after school project, SES (Supplemental Afterschool Services) Tutoring, and Peer Tutoring. We have recently expanded our service delivery to include several neighborhood based Literacy & Language Drop In Centers in the City of Buffalo’s most impoverished neighborhoods.
