The C.O. Jones Family Reunion show won’t just commemorate the induction of the Schulz family into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, it marks the first time these accomplished musicians will ever play together live.
Dave Schulz will take the stage along with his sister Gretchen and their brother Robert for the first time ever. “We’ve never had the chance to play together,” said Dave, “because of schedules and life.”
The trio of siblings are an accomplished group of musicians. Dave was nominated for three awards at the 2006 All Access Music Awards, where he won Best Keyboardist. He has also toured with the Goo Goo Dolls and The English Beat. He also has a new album due out before the end of the year.
Robert, the drummer, was nominated for a Grammy in 2004. His performance in Yehudi Wyner’s “The Mirror” put him in the running for the Best Small Ensemble Performance award. Gretchen has been using her soulful voice locally, playing with The Morvels and the Pine Dogs.
While Dave is the more accomplished of the three, he credits them with playing a hand in his success. “They’re responsible for getting me into music. My brother told me I was playing piano too fast when I was 12.”
Dave’s old funk outfit, C.O. Jones, will also be playing the show, in lieu of their usual annual Christmas show. “It’s gonna be pure, unadulterated funk rock and soul. In. Your. Face,” Dave said. “We miss doing it. We’ll be pulling out some surprises. C.O. Jones is usually a party. It’s the kind of vibe we put out there.”
The show will be at Mohawk Place, tonight at 10 PM. More information can be found at http://www.daveschulzmusic.com/ or http://www.mohawkplace.com/
