The ground-floor of the Elsinghorst Building, 136 Broadway at Elm, is ready for commercial tenants. Jane Munro of Hunt Commercial Real Estate is listing the 5,000 sq.ft. of loft-like space in the renovated building. Owner Jean Elsinghorst painstakingly renovated the circa-1866 property into three contemporary loft apartments and first-level business space. Parking is available in an adjacent lot.
The Elsinghorst Building was originally constructed as a residence to house the Elsinghorst family, recently arrived from the Netherlands. The property evolved with an addition to the residential structure for the Elsinghorsts’ coppersmith’s, and in 1882, with the construction of the defining three-story “Italianate” block building seen today.
One of the loft apartments, fully-leased shortly after opening in mid-2007, has just become available.
Broadway has seen several redevelopment projects in recent years. Roger Trettel rehabbed The Buehl Block at Broadway and Ellicott into a mix of commercial and residential space. The Colored Musicians’ Club is located across the street as is Choco-Logo at 141 Broadway.
At nearby 173 Elm Street, Barrett Price is planning to rehab a four-story building he purchased from Mudpies Children’s Museum. Two significant Elm Street project announcements are expected soon.
