Brodo, located at 765 Elmwood Avenue is pleased to be the host to two great events Autistic Services Inc. (ASI) will be holding in August.
ASI is the only regional agency who primarily provides personalized services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. “ASI’s mission is to provide opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to receive the service they need to become active community members and provide education to the community about their capabilities, while at the same time giving back to the community. ASI wants people to see how wonderful these individuals are,” Veronica Federiconi, Executive Director of ASI stated.
From August 4 to 24, visitors of Brodo will have the opportunity to view and purchase art created by individuals with autism. “Art gives individuals with autism another way to express themselves when they don’t have a voice or interest in using their voice,” Federiconi explained. At this event guests can expect to view pieces of art that are composed collaboratively, as paintings are layered with more than one vision allowing various individuals to take turns adding their signature to each piece.
This exhibit will feature numerous pieces of art created by individuals from the Educational, Supplemental Day Habilitation, and Group Day Habitation Programs, which are all supported by ASI. “All of the art exhibits ASI offers are to showcase the wonderful and creative abilities of people with autism while giving the community a chance to see their abilities also,” Federiconi said.
Additionally, on August 24, the last day of the exhibit, there will also be a reception held at Brodo from 3 PM to 5 PM as part of the closing festivities of the Elmwood Festival of the Arts. Proceeds from the sale of art, wine and beer at the reception will benefit ASI and the various programs they offer.
