Come out and help Catholic Charities’ Creative Edge Arts Studio, while learning how to fabric paint.
A fabric painting class will be held on Saturday, August 23 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Tri-Main Center, which is located at 2495 Main Street, Suite 412. Artist Barb Murak will lead the class as she teaches up to eight fabric painting techniques ranging from basic texture and patterns to more advanced wet-on-wet watercolor effects, dry brush, stamping/printing and more. According to Barb Murak, “Teaching fabric painting workshops fulfills my desire to pass on my love of painting and fabrics by conveying to others a joyful, expressive journey exploring nature’s wealth of patterns and textures.”
If your interested in attending this class it is $35 per person or $60 for two people. This cost includes all the materials needed for the class and the proceeds will benefit Catholic Charities’ Creative Edge Arts Studio. “The Catholic Charities’ Creative Edge Arts Studio offers complimentary healing processes for mental health and addictions, while providing people with quality healing that is available to everyone,” Eileen Hothow, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Program Supervisor stated.
Catholic Charities has 53 locations that serve all eight counties in Western New York and offers people expressive arts therapy and talk therapy. “People benefit from expressive arts therapy because any visual art or creative writing taps into the right side of the brain, while talking in therapy taps into the left side of the brain. When both are put together it allows people to heal holistically. If people are on the defense they can’t let go just through talking in therapy, when they do expressive arts therapy, the right side of the brain allows them to let go of their defenses,” Hothow explained.
No prior art experience is necessary to attend this class. There are only 6 spots left, as the maximum capacity is 15 people. Depending on the success of the class, the Catholic Charities’ Creative Edge Arts Studio may offer a second. To register for this class, call 862.0367 today, Monday, August 18.
