Saturday July 19th (3pm-8pm) will mark the 3rd Rally at Rock Harbor Yard. If you made it to either of the previous events, then you know that this summer series is held at one of the more unique venues in the city. And when you have a unique venue, then you attract unique acts and visitors. Once again, the rally will feature progressive techno-fusion sound and plenty of eye candy. (Click here to see venue)
$5 at the door* gets you admission to see multiple live music acts, and performances as well as a free bottled water to get ya hydrated. As always there will be tickets for sale to put towards veggie and non-veggie food options and Flying Bison beer. The shuffleboard courts will be back again, and this time we’re introducing hopscotch areas, and a giant chess set (with timer). There’s even going to be a blacksmith there to forge art the old fashioned way. (See details from last rally)
Of course this rally, brought to you by the Rock Harbor Blue Initiative, is aiming to be the bike-friendliest event series in the city. That means that we’re hoping visitors arrive via bikes (or kayaks, on foot, or on skateboards). Buffalo Blue Bike will once again sponsor the event (bike parking) as will Sugar City (baked goods). Even though the weekend of July Fourth prevented Buffalo’s Microparks and Verve Breakdancing Studio from appearing, both groups will have a presence on the 19th. As far as music goes, the line-up will be announced soon enough – past acts included The Adam Zadok Band, Sleeping Kings of Iona, Fashion Expo 1990, Benyo, Bev-Beverly, and The Mom and Dad Parade. A stage addition is being built to host acoustic performances in-between band change-ups. (See first rally showing)
Other event features include beer and food cages, real bathrooms, musician VIP lounge, a dry dock water sprinkler station, and steel beam seating throughout the venue. Expect bubble machines, smoke machines, sidewalk chalk, and possibly a surprise appearance by Christopher Bell, a Jamestown musician who is traveling along the Erie Canal with his canoe and his guitar! The point is… expect the unexpected on the 19th and you’ll be sure to have a great time.
*The admission cost goes toward paying the musicians, Wasteland Music sound, and video production. Remaining funds are going towards building a bike sculpture in downtown Buffalo.
