Karaoke for a Cause

After Thursday in the Square, don’t miss Karaoke for a Cause July 24, 9 PM to 4 AM at King’s Court, which is located on 189 Delaware Avenue.
University at Buffalo Students Against Sweatshops (UBSAS) and Coalition for Economic Justice (CEJ) have teamed up to host this great no-talent karaoke night. “UBSAS and CEJ are both labor organizations that focus on working class issues while trying to make Buffalo a more livable and attractive city.
“CEJ works with and empowers people in their quest to find jobs. Having jobs gives people a sense of pride and that’s what CEJ aims for. UBSAS’s focus is working with UB employees and unions to ensures that UB respects their workers,” Joanna Boron, member of CEJ and organizer for UBSAS explained.
“When CEJ and UBSAS decided to host a fundraiser they chose karaoke because it’s fun and a great way to bring together a diverse group of people to sing,” Boron said. This fundraiser is sure to be a fun event, especially since they are expecting a few hundred people to attend.
All profits from this event will go to UBSAS and CEJ. “The profits will be used well, and by attending this event you will be helping UBSAS to attend a conference in Denver, and CEJ in their efforts to expand living wage laws in the City of Buffalo.” Additionally, if this event is a success, CEJ and UBSAS will hold Karaoke for a Cause in the future.
If you’re not much of a singer, this fundraiser will also be a good opportunity for networking and people interested in getting involved with Buffalo labor issues.
This is a 21 and over event with a cover charge of $5. For more information, call 716.903.7532 or email Karaoke for a Cause by clicking here. To RSVP for this event you can click here, but you must be a member of Facebook.
