There are some people who dabble in the game of chess, and then there are those who live the game. I’ve been reading about a few different chess clubs in Buffalo, but not being an avid player I’m not sure which ones are best for different levels of play. Some of the tournament play that I have heard about is only to be left to the experts. That’s why I finally decided to post on a beginners series in August that takes place at the Main Place Mall.
The Archangel 8 Chess Academy is hosting a lunchtime “Chess for Beginners” series for those of you who always thought that it would be fun to learn how to play the “Royal Game”. From noon until 2pm players will be briefed on the rules of the United States Chess Federation while playing some entry-level games. The series of classes is also good for those seasoned players who may be a bit rusty. It’s also a great way to meet others who share in the common interest of chess.
*Starting every Wednesday in August, the will host a Lunchtime Workshop at the Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main St, Buffalo NY. Wednesdays, August 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th, 2008. The Chess for Beginners will help those who want to learn as well as those who want to refresh their understanding of the “Royal Game” and the .
Meeting time is from Noon until 2pm. Food Court is available for lunch – bring your lunch to the Red Cross room along with your chess set, chess board and pencil. Cub Scouts “Weblos” can fulfill their Belt Loop requirements for the Cub Scouts Academics.
