– In Buffalo you tear it down of course.
– You let it rot until it falls.
– You don’t take advantage of its tremendous inherent potential.
– If you are the City of Buffalo you don’t enforce building codes.
– If you are a neighbor you wait in frustration as your complaints go unheard.
– If you are an activist preservationists you drop your other 50 urgent preservation challenges and try your best to stop the madness.
– You look forward to a new parking lot or another one of those ubiquitous “shovel ready” sites.
– You visualize one of those plastic replacement houses in its place.
Ironically Neighborhood activist Harvey Garrett, who’s house is just a few blocks from this building, was reportedly cited by Buffalo building officials for some missing trim as he was actively renovating the building. MISSING TRIM!
This Livery building is one of the most unique buildings in the city. These buildings are the key to the city’s future and are the reason for the strong resurgence of this neighborhood and others like it. Loss of this building will be a tragedy for the entire WNY community and will leave a giant scar in this neighborhood. To compound that tragedy most will never realize the depth of their loss.
The continual scraping away of Buffalo’s heritage has to be stopped. These things can not be brought back! EVER! Tearing down everything is not a plan. Where is the plan?
