On July 5th from 2pm-8pm Rock Harbor Village will be hosting an event that will raise money for bike-friendly activities in Buffalo. The event will feature a number of community organizations that have made a commitment to Buffalo biking. The list includes Buffalo Blue Bike (bike co-operative) and Verve Dance Studio (Shane’s breakdancing studio). A series of bands will be performing including The Mom and Dad Parade, Bev-Beverly, Fashion Expo 1990, Sleeping kings of Iona and Besnyo. The event organizers are hoping that people consider arriving on bikes, as the purpose of the event is to promote cycling in the WNY area. Food and beer will be served, and it is expected that there will be ‘green’ demonstrations and a possible tree carving in-between the music line-ups. People are also welcome to arrive via canoe or kayak since the venue is located along the Scajaquada Creek (corner of Niagara Street and Tonawanda).
Rock Harbor Village is attempting to become one of the more unique outdoor music and event venues in the city. Saturday will include both electronic and acoustic performances against a backdrop of old industrial Buffalo. Rock Harbor Village is the future site of a student village and a multi-faceted indoor/outdoor recreation facility. Money raised on Saturday will come from beer sales – the event is free and open to the public. Food sales (veggie burgers and pastries) on that day will go toward benefiting an undetermined non-profit. If you would like to know more about the Rock Harbor Village Bike Bash, send an email here. Otherwise, we should have additional details as the week rolls forward.
Remember, the venue is located at the parking lot adjacent to the bike trail and the Scajaquada Creek (57 Tonawanda – corner of Niagara Tonawanda). The times are from 2pm-8pm. Music and event schedule to be announced. James and his Ice Creamcycle will be there for a few hours to cool down the crowd. Plus Micropark Jay has just jumped onboard… he will be on hand to discuss developments with the future skate and bike park.
