His Name Is Daisy And He Needs A Home, Quack!

This afternoon an email came through from my friend Hal. It’s a shout out to find a home for a duck that is now living on his city street… literally. From Hal:
“Meet Daisy, my new neighbor. She arrived a couple of weeks ago (from where no one knows) and set up living quarters in the neighbor’s yard – two houses away. When they realized she was NOT leaving, they got her a tub and some feed. She wanders the ‘hood’ during the day (as this morning’s photo indicates), but returns daily to her yard.”
I spoke to Diane, a concerned neighbor, who wants to make sure that this duck finds a proper home in the country. The neighborhood was told that in order for any of the animal rescue agencies to take it the neighbors would have to capture it. So far, no one has come up with a plan for its capture. From Diane:
“He’s a domestic duck runaway. He doesn’t fly long distance and my concern is that he doesn’t know where to go. He loves it here because we give it water and feed it. But with the winter… it needs a home and needs to be around other ducks. It needs to be in a protective environment. The tamer it gets, the more dangerous it is for the duck. I’m afraid it will get hit by a car or get eaten by a dog. It needs hay and a shelter… we would like to see it end up in the country. He’s a cutie… he goes right up to people, but we can tell it’s lonely. It’s nesting on the ground, which is not good for him. He’s out there running around like crazy… he’s on the corner of Hudson and Orton Place. Everyone will tell you where it is. If anyone can help, please call me at 716.881.1433.”
