I never knew that the Buffalo Garden Walk actually gives funding out to beautification efforts in the city. The funding effort has been going on for five years (as of this year). This year, seven groups and organizations were the beneficiaries of the Garden Walk funds. In order to qualify, each of the causes applied and the “award amounts were based on the overall project cost and the eligible projects were required to include matching funds from government, private contributions or volunteer sweat equity.” This year’s recipients are:
-Albright-Knox Art Gallery (fountain garden project)
-Allentown Association (hanging basket project)
-Bird-Granger Block Club (hanging basket project)
-Cottage District Safety Committee (neighborhood planter project)
-Elmwood Village Association (hanging basket project)
-Gilda’s Club of WNY (West Ferry perennial bed project)
-Kleinhans Community Association (Plymouth Avenue bus shelter improvement project)
So not only does The Garden Walk put Buffalo on the map when it comes to some of the country’s most incredible neighborhoods and gardens, the event injects needed funds to making the city a great place to be throughout the year. I don’t think that anyone can remember a time when there was not a Garden Walk… and I’m sure that there are a lot of folks who would could not imagine the city without one. Applications for future funding can be found on the Garden Walk website.
