This past Saturday we discovered a relatively new gallery on Main Street. The gallery is located in one of my favorite buildings on the street. Unfortunately the building, known as the Red Jacket, has never managed to attract any stable tenants. Back in ’05 the building management launched a deal designed to attract start-up businesses. The short-lived deal never really got off the ground, but around the same time the building became home of Cosmopolitan Art Gallery – a somewhat under-the-radar sort of place that primarily opens whenever they feel like it. The main guy behind the gallery, William E. Seamans lll, who is affiliated with the East Buffalo Sculpture Center, hosted Saturday’s one-night show titled, ‘MEET THE ARTIST – the series featuring Dawn Exton show titled No Threat’.
Both the performance (that we missed) and the found art, sculptures and collages show managed to attract a pretty decent crowd. It was very cool to experience this show on Main Street, just a short ways down from Allen Street in a district that is not known for having a lively night art scene (just yet). The interior of the gallery was lit up beautifully and coordinated perfectly with the chill background music. The entire scene was very unexpected – we were just walking from Campieri’s 888 to Allentown when we happened upon The Cosmo. If you’re an artist or a fan of the arts, you may want to check out this Craigslist entry for contact details. See if you can make a show… or be in a show… I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed. Keep a lookout for upcoming events from The Cosmo.
