Sushi lovers will be excited to learn that downtown Buffalo has just landed a sushi restaurant. Since the closing of Sake’s, many moons ago, and Osaka (at Chippewa) the sushi scene has been sparse to say the least. There were a couple of false-hopes that never panned out. And Elmwood was fortunate to snag Wasabi in the former Kibarashi diggs. Now SeaBar, chef Mike Andrzejewski’s newest endeavor, has signed on (its second location) with Rocco Termini’s Ellicott Commons building. SeaBar will have some good company, including Fix Salon and Aesthetics across the corridor and… well, stay tuned for more exciting development news to come in the next couple of days.
Knowing Mike, I’m sure that there will also be many non-sushi offerings at the new downtown location. But if you’re a local sushi lover, you already know that Mike puts out an excellent selection of sushi pieces, sashimi, rolls, along with his own custom creations. I was very sad to see his Tsunami hotspot close on Kenmore. It was a very cool restaurant, well known for its simplistic Asian flare and its diverse menu. I’m stoked to see Mike making this move to a downtown. Looks like commentors GDC and sbrof both got their wish.
