If you thought that the Jenny Shop would be a shot in the dark, you may want to rethink your stance. According to Jen Hemmingway the shelves have been almost wiped out of merchandise. Today she spent a good portion of her sales’ pitch apologizing to her customers for the lack of merchandise. The funny thing is… before I stopped in I actually had trepidation that the result might be different. After all, you never know what the retail climate is like when there hasn’t been much of a retail climate in a number of years.
After stopping by Chop Chop for lunch (and not being able to sit at a table) I popped on over to the Jenny Shop. Jen was literally jumping up and down as if she too was surprised at the overwhelming reception. “We have to tell more people to open up down here,” she told me. “I can’t keep the jeans and tops in stock. I’m already considering expanding the shop… and there is another space across the way should be filled with retail. We’re seeing repeat customers and new shoppers everyday. I just picked up a local custom clothing line which is a great story… they’re already working on the selections now. I always hoped that we would have a great business, and now I can truly say that the downtown shoppers have been wonderful. With Chop Chop and Globe Market I really feel like I am in a district that works together. Just wait until you see what we’re going to be working on next…”.
