According to workers at the Elmwood Bank of America location, the newly built branch should open at the end of the month. We’ve been keeping an eye on the construction (it’s not hard to do since we’re fans of the coffee at Mythos) and have been very pleased with the look and feel of the building. The faux second floor (adaptable for future use if desired) really finished off the place nicely. I’m not going to start the tinted vs. clear glass debate… but I’m sure that some viewers out there might have an opinion. If you look closely at the bricks, the architects/builders did a good job at choosing a style that didn’t look brand spanking new.
The building looks good… a real change from the old one-storey, building with the blue awning that once stood there (Pier One). And of course the added daily activity will be great for the block. There will be additional parking spaces for diners and shoppers – post regular business hours, and increased lighting at night. The drive-thru in the back turned out to be much more visible than I had originally imagined. The minute amount of landscaping is still more than Pier One ever had… I really wish that they could have incorporated a small people park along the side with benches. Maybe they can add some seating out in front like M&T has down the street.
Since the building is more attractive, passersby will hopefully notice the illuminated Children’s Hospital Public Parking sign and realize that there is a public parking ramp behind the building. It would be nice to see some of those double-parked cars utilize the ramp instead of clogging up the Elmwood bike lanes. And speaking of bikes… how ‘bout some bike racks?
