Ever have a friend with great taste and a limitless wallet? Ever tell that friend, “When you’re done with that, throw it my way?”
Trinity Episcopal church has those friends, and that’s just what they did! This weekend, Trinity will be holding their “White Elephant Sale” but it should be called “The Things I Most Covet Sale”. Sure, there’ll be used kitchen gadgets and a few lamps and such that may be ugly enough to love, but the booty will be bountiful with all manner of high-end designer goodies.
I hate to drop names, but Blahnik, St. John, Jimmy Choo…Escada! There’ll be purses, shoes and clothes, according to Joe Gerace, chair of this year’s sale. “There’s something for everyone, really. We have quite a balance. It puts things in people’s hands that they want and might not have otherwise,” Gerace said.
The real thrill about this sale has to do with the church’s recent designation as a historic landmark building. “Every window in this church is either a Louis Tiffany or a John LaFarge.” Gerace stated, adding that other churches may have a few windows if importance, but not every single window. “This is a very rare instance,” he said.
With the goal of keeping the newly formed 501c3 in great condition, the proceeds from the sale will go into the restoration and upkeep of the building and windows. “We’re calling the project the Center of Glass and Light,” Gerace said. “The wood tracing around the windows has aged and needs replacing, and this sale will be the start of an ongoing fundraising effort that we’ll be announcing this spring.”
The sale with the misnomer will take place as follows:
Friday, May 2, 5:30 – 7:30, Treasure Hunters Night, $5 Fee
Saturday May 3, 10 – 3, Free Admission
Sunday, May 4, Noon – 2, $10 Bagsale*
