April promises to be a busy month for Buffalo’s thespians as the city gears up for the thirty-third anniversary of Shakespeare in Delaware Park. Every year, the Park transforms into a stage as thousands come to see Shakespearean plays performed in the gloaming by local actors and actresses. This summer season proves to be just as exciting and will feature two plays: King Lear and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Actors are needed to cast the roles of both productions. If thou hast the talent or the courage, auditions for this year’s performances will be held on Friday, April 11 from 4pm to 9pm and Saturday April 12 from 9am to 2pm.
Lisa Ludwig-Kramer, the Managing Director of Shakespeare in Delaware Park, has been screening calls for auditions all morning. “There is a large pool of professional talent here in Buffalo,” she admits excitedly. “People have already started calling to schedule appointments.” Last year’s casting call brought a response close to two hundred strong.
Auditions for the 2008 season of Shakespeare in Delaware Park will be held at the Market Arcade Building located at 617 Main Street by appointment only. All persons interested in auditioning have been directed to call (716) 856-4533 starting on March 31st with their name, telephone number, and availability when scheduling the appointment. On the day of the audition, actors and actresses are asked to prepare a two-minute, memorized Shakespearean monologue. Other requirements include a resume and headshots.
