Last evening we went to the Albright-Knox to check out eight video installations by Jennifer Steinkamp. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, though the images presented by Eli George on BRO’s Art Channel were very enticing. This show is very memorable… the video images will stick with you long after you have walked out of the show. That’s mostly due to the interactive nature of the seamless video projections.
One of the rooms, called the TV Room, was such a bizarre visual experience that I could only stand and watch for moments at a time. The Carter room, named after Jimmy Carter, consisted of wall-to-wall flowers that appeared to come alive as you moved about the space. The experience reminded me of Ray Bradbury’s short story called The Veldt – where a child’s nursery literally turns into an African jungle glade. If you’re into psychedelic video imagery, then get over to the gallery to see this. If you were a big fan of the Magic Eye when it was popular… this is the Magic Eye on speed.
See Eli’s post for details.
