It was just recently when I learned that BR’s former Content Editor and Creative Director, Bronwen Battaglia, had landed a new gig at Choco-Logo. She sent me an email wondering if I would like to stop by to taste the shop’s latest creation… Black and Tan Truffles made with real Guinness beer. Of course I took her up on the offer. When I arrived I tried one of the free samples located at the front desk. I asked Bronwen about the unusual Irish-inspired treat and she gave me the lowdown:
Black & Tan Truffles: “In celebration of the traditional Irish stout served for St. Patrick’s
Day, our Black & Tan truffles are made with real Guinness. They’re created as half dark and half milk chocolate with a swirl of light milk chocolate to mimic the appearance of the famous black & tan beverage. $29 per pound. $6 quartet box.”
As I looked around I spotted an awesome looking candy bar that was made with habanero peppers. How could I pass that up? Bronwen designed the wrapper… and it’s interesting that the design looks like it could have been an ad found in the original BR quarterly publication. Some of her designs are inspired by her kids… while others are just made to look super appealing. She filled me in on the Habanero Bar:
Limited Edition Habanero Bar “Inspired by our popular Valentine’s Day Hot Raspberry Truffle Hearts, Choco-Logo chocolatier Dan Johnson has created a limited edition Habanero Bar. Dark chocolate combines with hot raspberry habanero jelly in this specialty bar. It’s a sweet treat with a whisper of heat. Look for them displayed in an antique wooden cigar box. $3 for 2.25 oz bar.”
I tried the Habanero Bar this morning with a cup of coffee… man is it good. I didn’t even taste the pepper until a couple of seconds later. Very smooth. Oh, if you’re visiting Choco-Logo today, don’t forget: “Starting this Saturday (3/15) be on the look out for Choco-Logo’s GIANT over 7 foot tall (6′ 7″ plus ears) Easter Bunny who’ll be greeting
people in front of our Broadway @ Elm shop.”
Sincerely, Bronwen Battaglia – Art Department @ Choco-Logo Confectionery Design
