Enterprise will be staying open through the end of this school year as well as the next two. In a unanimous vote last night, the Buffalo Board of Education extended Enterprise Charter School’s operating charter for 27 months.
Pending expected final approval next week by the state Board of Regents, the decision means the school will continue to operate until at least June 2010.
“On behalf of our students, their families and our staff, I want to thank Dr. James Williams and his staff for their hard work, and particularly the school board members, who spent much time under great duress to seek the truth and vote to renew our charter so we can continue as one of their schools.” said Theron R. Howard, president of Enterprise’s board of trustees. “This process took a few more turns than any of us expected, but in the end the outcome supports our students’ continued growth and success.”
CEO Jill Norton has called the school fiscally and educationally sound. “We will continue to improve student learning and achievement, with many thanks to our strong partnerships,” she said. “With parental, community and partner support we continue to build a successful, vibrant and forward-looking school and the support we’ve received from inside and outside is gratifying,” said Norton. “I want to thank the school board and its staff for their votes of confidence as well.”
According to Kinser Pointer, parent coordinator, the extra three months on the renewal means everything in terms of getting parents and students to commit to the next two school years in addition to the completion of the current year.

Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts.
