The attached photos were taken on Christmas Eve when Santa and Mrs. Claus delivered cookies for a local neighborhood to those who serve them throughout the year. Yep, that’s our mayor, our Citizen’s Services crew, our police chief, and one of the local firemen accepting a simple act of thanks for a job well done.
But, there are so many others that need recognition. They are the real presents under the tree that work selflessly day in and day out to assure peace and goodwill. They could be the older woman down the street who watches out when the kids walk by after school; the teenager or next door neighbor who makes sure her walk is shoveled since she cannot lift a shovel of snow; the man down the street who decides that as long as he has his mower out, he can easily take care of the tall grass on the abandoned property a few doors down; or the passersby that pick up litter as they walk through the ‘hood.
Can we look past the glitz of Christmas and celebrate it throughout the year with random acts of kindness or thanks? Can we put down the new sweater or skates and realize someone may need a lift up from past memories of holidays gone by without family or friends to celebrate with? Can we realize that we may have our differences, but together we can create miracles?
It only takes one person to effect the lives of many in a positive vein. Maybe, today, Christmas Day, is a good time to start. Why not take some time right now to jot down a few notes under the comment section about someone you think needs recognition? Let’s make this post positive and thankful, filled with peace and consideration. Let’s see how far this can go.
