In recent weeks I’ve been passing by the Ultimate Men’s Shop and checking out their display windows. In doing so I noticed that there were some changes taking place. First of all, I saw that they were stocking the Buffalo City Love t-shirts. That was something different for a shop that always carried very exclusive upscale lines. I also saw that they were displaying overcoats… and I knew that the boutique had never carried any outerwear lines. So I decided to stop in to see what was causing some of the changes.
It turns out that the Ultimate Man’s Shop has a new General Manager. Her name is Siobhan Taylor (right) and she’s coming straight from a six-year stint as Sales Manager at Hugo Boss. I asked her what her plan was for the Ultimate Men’s Shop and she told me that although she was pleased with the store, it was going to take her a while to implement some fun clothing line introductions. “I feel like the store has a lot of potential,” she told me. “We have cool lines, but we have to make it a place that stands out. It’s a one-stop shop where guys can get a haircut, buy a cool shirt and then head downtown on a Friday night. If a customer can do everything at once… without going to the mall…then we’ve done our job. We want to cater to the businessmen, but we want to sell some more upscale casual as well. We’re trying out more price points. On Saturdays we get business from The Mansion and we’re hoping that the changes that we’re making will start to draw some Elmwood shoppers over to Delaware. This is not a shopping district yet…we are a destination store.”
The original formula of mixing fashion with pampering is still what sets the Ultimate Men’s Shop apart from other retailers in Buffalo… and just listen to the lines and products that Siobhan is starting to infuse: John Varvatos shoes and boots, Art of Shaving travel packs that men can take on a plane, and Gillette chrome razors that light up and vibrate (as seen in Maxim Magazine)… even couples can have some fun with that gift. Then there are the City Love Buffalo t-shirts (long, short) and new lines of jeans (yet to be announced) that will soon be on hand. The staple designers such as Ted Baker and Robert Graham will still be available, and stunning custom suit materials by Zegna and Gianni Versace are already in-store. Men can design a custom sport coat, shirt or a suit… welcome to first class. Cashmere sweaters by Theory and coveted ties are perfect stocking stuffers… as are the salon services offered by Bridget Mullen (center). She specializes in facials, haircuts (Kenra Platinum hair products), manicures and waxing. There’s no need for an appointment unless you are looking for a massage. If you’re stuck and are in need of some fashion advice, Fashion Consultant Crystal Lay (left) is always on hand to offer suggestions when it comes to materials, colors and custom fittings.
It’s all downtown… available at the Ultimate Men’s Shop. 360 Delaware Avenue. 716-332-3030. The shop is now open six days a week – Monday thru Saturday from 11am-7pm.
