In the magazine, on your screen, and now…on the radio too. Newell and Elena will be doing a weekly 5-minute radio segment with news director of WBFO, Mark Scott, for broadcast each Monday morning at 5:33, 7:33 and 9:33.
So far it’s being called Buffalo Rising Roundtable by default because no one could come up with anything catchier. Suggestions are welcome, of course.
Talk will focus on some of the hotter topics from the prior week, updates on previous topics and upcoming developments. This week, Newell talked about the discarded marble from the demolition of St. Joseph’s New Cathedral on Delaware Avenue some 30 years ago, and then everyone engaged in a discussion about the removal of the skyway and the alternative approaches to a Route 5 roadway that might be more appropriate to the area.
It’s hard to say what will be discussed on any given week because things are always changing, but developement of some sort will probably always be a topic. From time to time, readers of this site come up with questions about something, or suggestions for stories they’d like to see. We wouldn’t mind if you similarly suggested topics prior to our Friday taping concerning things you want to hear more about. We’ll do our homework and try to include it in our extended 15-minute talk that will be posted each week as a podcast.
We love the idea of teaming up with WBFO. It’s fun to go in and see everyone we’re used to hearing on the air, and those who work behind the scenes. (Did you find your cell phone, Bert?) Mark Scott, other than being one of the nicest guys we know, has a good feel for Buffalo and the things going on in it, and the newly remodeled Allen Hall studios are warm and airy–with three different strengths of coffee, depending on the sort of day you’re having.
Why don’t you check the studio out for yourself by attending a free Live at Allen Hall performance some Wednesday night?
And tune us in every Monday @ 88.7.
